New energy vehicle refers to the vehicle with advanced technical principles, new technology and new structure, which uses unconventional vehicle fuel as the power source (or uses conventional vehicle fuel and new on-board power unit) and integrates the advanced technologies in vehicle power control and drive.
New energy vehicles include pure electric vehicles, incremental electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, hydrogen engine vehicles, etc.
In November 2020, the General Office of the State Council issued the New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035), which requires the in-depth implementation of the national strategy for the development of new energy vehicles, promoting the high-quality and sustainable development of China's new energy vehicle industry, and accelerating the construction of a powerful automobile country.
By the end of May 2021, according to the China Automobile Industry Association, China has about 5.8 million new energy vehicles, accounting for about 50% of the global total.

In 2021, the annual output of new energy vehicles will be 3.677 million, an increase of 152.5% over the previous year, ending the three consecutive years of negative growth. It is estimated that in 2022, China's automobile sales are expected to reach 27.5 million vehicles, with a year-on-year growth of 5.4%, the growth rate of passenger vehicles will reach 8%, and the sales of new energy vehicles will soar to 5 million vehicles. In the first half of 2022, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in China will increase 1.2 times.
In October 2022, the production and sales of new energy vehicles hit a new monthly record high, reaching 762000 and 714000 respectively, with year-on-year growth of 87.6% and 81.7%, and the market share rose to 28.5%. In the first 10 months of 2022, the production and sales of new energy vehicles will reach 5.485 million and 5.28 million respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 1.1 times and a market share of 24%.
